Female Inventors and Inventions by Rembrand Koning, Sampsa Samila, and John-Paul Ferguson, 18 SEP 2019what is this article about?
this article asks the question if the gender of an inventor effects who the invention benefits. and it was said that about 26% of female inventors, work on woman's health products. What did I learn? I learned that there is a big percentage of female inventors working on female health products. I think this is really good because women are the only relevant people that use those products. so, who better to help make them? Men may not have the same results or feelings towards make a product that they won't ever use which is why I believe that there may not be many male inventors that are working to better women's health products. what did I find most surprising? what I found most surprising was that there was such a big percentage of women inventors that focus of women's health products. this is good because they know their own bodies and know what would be comfortable to use or perhaps what would make better products then the ones commonly used. From my experience as a male, I know that there are a lot of female products, yet not enough at the same time. a lot are very expensive, difficult to find or overall uncomfortable to use as I've heard; so, I believe that although this is a surprise to me, this can really help the women of the future or the women of today.

Breakthrough Inventions and Migrating Clusters of Innovation, By William R. Kerr, 30 SEP 2009What is this article about?
This article talks about how much of an effect an invention can make in an area. it talks about how if an invention is made in one place, such as the San Fransisco Bay Area, there tends to be a lot more innovation compared to a place like New York. What did i learn? I learned that such a small thing could leave a big impact in an area. Before, I thought that places like New York would have jumped at the opportunity to attempt and innovating more from inventions. Although inventions haven't really affected areas farther away from their own surrounding area, I still believe that it is wasted potential, as you could still make quite the innovation from learning from other people, especially from places you maybe haven't experienced that much of. How can I use the knowledge I have gained from this article in the future? I can use this knowledge by being more aware of what is happening in my own community. By being more aware, it opens more doors for me to see if people are making new inventions that I or someone I know can innovate. We can possibly make a difference in the world by producing the product we created with the help of the inventor and make a profit while doing so. Time to Move On? Career Advice for Entrepreneurs Preparing for the Next Stage by Julia Austin, 10 JAN 2023 What is this article about?
This article talks about change when it comes to the workplace and being able to associate yourself into that new environment. A great statement is said when she says, "Think of it as that time between how you associate yourself with “we.” When you stop saying “at my last company, we …” but you have yet to associate yourself with the “we” of your new role and still refer to your new team as “you.” For example, “How do you do things here? "". it captures how differently we can see ourselves without fully realizing it; it shows us that with very simple word changes, we can see how we recognize ourselves and where we fit into that new environment. What did I learn from the article that I did not know before? I learned that when we are put into a position that we find unfamiliar, we can find ourselves lot in the new journey ahead of us. I learned things like documenting how you feel can aid in keeping your thoughts, feelings, and concerns organized, opposed to scattered everywhere all at once. The second thing I learned is that you should think of your journey in "eras", in order to describe how far you've come as your role as a leader. How can I use the knowledge I have gained from this article in the future? I can use this knowledge in a multitude of ways. Firstly, it can help me in my journey when it come to my career. it would help me to keep my thoughts together, so I don't become overwhelmed with things or tasks that I'm presented with. Secondly, this helps me to be mindful of my own words. It would be very helpful to associate myself with whatever teams I need to work with in the future by replacing the "you", with the "we". Accounting Information as Political Currency by Karthik Ramanna and Sugata Roychowdhury, june 19, 2008What is this article about?
This article is about how accounting information is being used as a form of currency for politics. it was shown that in 2004, if a company was supporting a certain candidate, they sometimes would tweak their information to make it look better. What was challenging about what I read? What I found challenging about what I read was how things were worded. For someone like me who can't really understand some of the words or how they were being used, it can be very challenging to read the article. although it was a fairly short article, it took a long time for me to read since i had to look up and find out what certain words meant in its context. Another challenging i found while reading was the concept of financial information being used as political currency. even though it was explained well, i still had troubles grasping the knowledge they were giving due to wording, sentence structure, and over all lack of prior knowledge on my end. What did I learn from this article? I learned that when a company supports a candidate, they have a few benefits such as, perhaps benefiting from a policy they could pass, and it could improve the company relations with shareholders if they both share an interest with the candidate. Starbucks’ Lessons for Premium Brands, by John Quelch, 09 JUL 2008What is this article about?
This article is about the mistake with the Starbucks franchise. It talked about the struggle of managing along with keeping the interest of separate customer groups. What did I learn? I learned that keeping the appeal for a wide range of people is very difficult and can lead to a multitude of complications such as Starbucks having to add things to the menu in order to keep interest in their business. At first they offered a home like environment where the customers could interact with a barista in a friend like manner, while getting their order made. On the other hand, another group of people just want their coffee’s and then leave. That specific group was in the majority so naturally, Starbucks had to appeal more to them. What did it mean to me? To me, this article meant to me that there is a lot of small things that can upset any group of people no matter how good a product could be. It can affect your business and how well it grows. at first it started as a home away from home, but due to the consumer majority, it turned into another coffee shop with, in my opinion, no real personality to it other than it just being there to sell you the coffee you want. This article showed me the reality of making a business and how you will more than likely have to adapt in order for your business to prosper. "Making the Decision to Franchise (or not)", by Julia Hanna, 28 JUL 2008What is this article about?
This article discusses the pros of why if you make a business, it should be a franchise. some of the pros include: "...the firm minimizes exposure to risk in a relatively unfamiliar market; as a tradeoff, it also gives up some measure of control." along with,"...firms that have a standardized business face the challenge of serving customers with different preferences and behaviors when that model is stretched across multiple markets." What was most surprising to me? Something that was most surprising to me was when it was stated that research showed that unit sales (total sales of a product/products) are lower for businesses that dive into multiple markets without franchising. This information gives many aspiring businesses owners great insight of what they may want to consider when starting a business that focuses of selling many products in many markets. This was also surprising to me because I personally didn't know there would have been a difference whether or not you make your business a franchise or not. How can I use the knowledge I've gained in the future? I can use this knowledge in the future by informing others about these upsides to a franchise. Others that are serious about becoming a business owner can benefit a lot from the new information that I've learned from this article by applying it to their own business or future business in order to surpass the potential mistake of not becoming a franchise. Another way I can use this knowledge is using it to perhaps make my very own business, while down the line making it into a franchise which will boost profits when selling my products. Lastly, a way I can use this information in the future is by not only making a business by myself, but also with others to make workloads less difficult and to all use our money as a startup therefore not having to hurt our wallets as bad as it could hv been hurt in order to try and make a potentially successful business. "FROM PRISON CELL TO NIKE’S C-SUITE: THE JOURNEY OF LARRY MILLER", By Jamal Meneide, 31 MAY 2023 What was the article about?
This article follows the story of Larry Miller, a man with a troubled past and now Nike executive. In the article we dive into what happened in his youth, being behind bars multiple times, and his transformation from his past. What people, events, or ideas from the article most stood out to you? What was most intriguing to me about this article was when he was recommended for valedictorian for his very high, test scores. It really sends a message to people who could be struggling with issues that were similar to his, such as being in and out of jail; he really has an impactful last word of his speech saying, "Let's not serve time. Let's let time serve us.". Hearing that really intrigued me because it is both a meaningful quote and a thoughtful one as well. What did I learn from the article that I did not know before? What I had learned from this article was that even with a troubled past, you are still able to rise to new heights and become the person you truly want to be. I also learned that when you are at, you're lowest in life you can work hard and surpass what you expected you could do. Larry Miller worked hard for his education and for his opportunities that he was given. In my own opinion he is a truly inspiring man with a lot to offer in terms of life experience and most definitely job experience because of his work with such a massively well-known company such as Nike that must have to make difficult decisions every day.
